What To Expect

Santa Maria delle Grazie

Il Cenacolo
Leonardo's masterpiece, the Last Supper, one of the world's greatest painted masterpieces occupies the end wall of the previous refectory of the XVth century Domenican Monastery. Painted by Leonardo between 1495 and 1498 portrays the Apostoles seated together with Jesus when Jesus announced that one of them would betray him. The Disciples' emotion transpiresfrom their gestures, mouvements and faces and contrasts with the apparent immobility of Christ who dominates the centre of a rigously symmetrical composition in perfect perspective. The painting was miraculously untouched by the August 1943 bombings which damaged the nearby cloister and part of the church.

Good Visit

Our guide was excellent. Recommend her. However our tickets were for 3:00 and somehow Trip Advisor had a guide set up for 10:15am. So our guide was asked to fill in at last minute

Guided tour from Viator - excellent guide - very professional and knowledgeable.
Staff in the booking office also very helpful.
Impressive but Very Expensive

The Last Supper by Da Vinci is housed in the refectory adjacent to the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.

It is about a ten minute walk from metro station Cadorna on line M2.

Unless you book months in advance, you end up paying an exorbitant fee to a third party for the pleasure of viewing the masterpiece for 15 minutes.

I paid around £45 with ‘Get Your Guide’.

Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. She gave out plenty of information about the Last Supper and also the impressive Crucifixion fresco by Donato on the opposite wall.

Both works are hugely impressive especially considering the restoration both have gone through especially with the WWII bombing.

A worthwhile but costly visit, bearing in mind the fact that you can view countless masterpieces in the National Gallery in London for nothing.
Disappointed in Viator. Last Supper was wonderful, in spite of aviator’s mistakes.

The viewing itself was great, as was our guide. However, we got changes to our schedule very late in the day, and 3 or 4 different names were given to us for our guide. This was not the fault of the guide, but of viator. We couldn’t get a new voucher for the newly scheduled session, because the “sender” didn’t know how to send it. We honestly thought it was a scam. Not what I expect from Viator.
