Overview

Milan is not only design, fashion and night-life. Milan is known also for music. Right in the heart of the city, only few steps from the Cathedral and Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, there is the temple of the music: La Scala Theatre and its Museum.

During the years many musicians left their precious contribution. Do you know Giuseppe Verdi, Gioachino Rossini, Luciano Pavarotti and Maria Callas? They are only few names, but many more passed by this place.

Nowadays, La Scala Theatre Museum preserves the most important collection of set designs, musical instruments and costumes used for the greatest performances.

Follow this 1.5-hour experience with your monolingual guide and you are going to admire this magical place.

ATTENTION: Due to rehearsals and private events, the visit may be limited to the Museum only. The visit of the interior of the Theatre is NOT guaranteed.

La Scala at Best

We are two seniors over 70. The tour guide (I forget her name) was knowledgeable and informed. When we could no longer stand, she offered us chairs in one of the boxes overlooking the theater. It was amazing and lovely to gaze upon the scene and at the 12 ton chandelier! She told us stories of how the theater got its name and famous singers who have performed there throughout the over-two-hundred years. It was exciting to watch the engineers and designers at work preparing for the nights performance. When we visited the Garnier Opera House in Paris there was no personal tour and its doors to the actual opera house were not open to the public, only the hallway floors. Not so with the La Scala in Milan!

We also had a private tour with the same personable tour guide of Leonardo Da Vinci's Codex Tour afterwards. It was wonderful to see the library with so many books! There were many originals with Da Vinci's handwriting displayed. I felt a bit rushed walking through the library but overall I highly recommend these tours!
Great experience, highly recommended.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the theatre and the past performers. Unfortunately, we originally only saw inside the auditorium with the lights down as they were rehearsing, but we were allowed back when they'd finished a little later. We were a little rushed at the end as the guide had overrun and had to dash off for her next group.
